Tour of Britain 2012 stage 8 Final

Stage 8 today signified the climax to the Tour of Britain, covering 91.9 miles between Reigate to Guildford taking on the stunning route over the Surrey Hills, through streets packed with fan’s and finishing on the renowned cobbled streets of Guildford. Earlier in the stage, along with an unexpected pause at a level crossing Node4-Giordana’s Pete William’s got out again in a break and secured more points nailing the Yodel Sprint competition.

William’s played a key part in the lead group of four for most of the race holding the Peleton off until they were caught by a chasing group led by Tiernan Locke on the Skoda King of the Mountains  super steep Cat 1 climb of Barhatch Lane that split the peleton, resulting in another break led by Sanchez with Dave Clarke of Node4-Giordana clinging on to contention at the front of the peleton.

With lots of riders campaigning for the individual final stage win today’s racing proved exciting with breaks a plenty including a bold move by Jack Bobridge with 30K to go, he was eventually reeled back in at around 13K to go.

At 6K to go the whole field was grouped together with Team Sky leading the Peleton and teams massing behind setting up for a dramatic finish on the Guildford cobbles seeing Mark Cavendish’s impressive finish to take the stage convincingly!

Congratulations to Jonathan Tiernan Locke for taking 1st in the overall General Classification.

A magnificent effort from The Node4-Giordana team throughout the Tour resulted in a 1st place for Pete William’s, a 2nd for Marcin Bialoblocki and 3rd for Matt Cronshaw in the Yodel sprint competition.

The 845, 8 stage event got underway last Sunday in Ipswich before finishing on the 8th stage today.
